Ann Meriwether
Ergler (Anderson)
Mar 28, 1936 — May 23, 2024
Ann Meriwether Anderson Ergler died at Our Lady of Peace, Charlottesville, Virginia on May 23.
Ann was born in 1936 in Lawrenceville, Virginia, to Dr. Thomas H. Anderson and Ruth Sullenberger Anderson. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1957 and moved to Charlottesville to teach at St. Anne's-Belfield School. While in Charlottesville she met her first husband, William Broaddus, Jr., moved to Hopewell, Virginia and had two children. After their divorce, Ann moved back to Charlottesville and taught math for the rest of her career at Albemarle and Western Albemarle High Schools. At Albemarle High School she met her husband Richard H. Ergler whom she married in 1980 at their house in White Hall, Virginia, where they lived together until her last days at Our Lady of Peace.
Ann was a lifelong teacher and student, learning Spanish and teaching English as a second language in retirement. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard, her two children, Meriwether Broaddus and Warner Broaddus (Sean Bacon), and two grandchildren, Liza Dent (Matthew Wheeler) and Catharine Dent.
The family would like to thank Claudia Claros and the wonderful staffs of Our Lady of Peace and Hospice of the Piedmont for their care and kindness to Ann and our family.
A reception will be held at Grace Estate Winery, White Hall Rd., Crozet on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ann's memory to Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle or the Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA.
