Obituary

Barbara Jean Gibson, 73, of North Garden passed away on September 25, 2014 at her residence. She was born on November 21, 1940 in Albemarle County to the late Clarence Roosevelt Lilly and Martha Jane Sprouse Lilly. She was also preceded in death by her son, Richard "Ricky" Elwood Gibson, Jr.; three brothers, Lewis E. Lilly, James Roosevelt Lilly, Percy Lilly and one sister, Martha Davis.

She is survived by her husband Richard Elwood Gibson of 54 years, and their children, Teresa A. Deane and her husband, Craig of Keswick, Martha "Jane" Janie Beverly and her husband Sammy of Crozet, Michael "Mike" Gibson of Earlysville and his wife Donna, Timothy "Tim" Gibson of Louisa, Barbara Jean Powell of Buckingham and 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Barbara was a homemaker until her children were older. She was a manager at Eltzroth and Thompson Greenhouse. She did private care nursing at Cedars Nursing Home for over twenty years and was sole proprietor of the Treasure Chest for over eight years, and a private cook for the Queen of England's first cousin. She had many talents, she was an avid gardener, seamstress, enjoyed crocheting. Many more talents that she enjoyed came naturally to her.

The family would like to express their wishes to thank the staff at Charlottesville Family Medicine, especially Penny, her nurse, and the team at Davita of Charlottesville, also her doctors and nurses at Martha Jefferson Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont.

At the end she was surrounded by her husband, her children and her faithful companion "Lilly".

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to Davita, 1460 Pantops Mountain Place, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1st 2014 at the Crozet United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia, with Rev. Van Crawford officiating.
