Betty Jane Sandridge Kent, 90, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2021. She was born April 19, 1930 in Albemarle County, daughter of the late Charles Wood Sandridge and Jennie Via Sandridge. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Early Kent Jr, one brother, Cecil Sandridge, two sisters, infant Virginia Sandridge, and Frances James and her husband Aubrey, and their daughter Barbara Ann. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Katie Via Sandridge and three step-sisters, Virginia, Thelma and Alma, and their husbands.
Betty Jane is survived by two sons: Charles Early Kent and his wife Beth Blanton of Palmyra, Virginia; and Larry Kent and his wife Judy of Afton, Virginia. She is also survived by two granddaughters: Lisa Rochefort and her husband Brian of Midland, Virginia, and their sons Sterling, Marshall, Wyatt, and Kyle; and Elizabeth Kent of Tampa, Florida. Betty is also survived by her nephew Aubrey James Jr., his wife Shirley and their son Steve of Virginia Beach; her niece Paula Martin (Bob); nephews Steve Hutchinson (Kathy), Wes Kent (Cindy), Ron Kent (Claire), and their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Stella Kent Hutchinson and Janice Sandridge Kent, and many beloved cousins and friends.
Betty worked for many years at J. Bruce Barnes Lumber Company and Anderson Funeral Home. She was a member of Crozet United Methodist Church, and a member for 20 plus years of the Crozet Lions Club. She was a past member of the Red Hatters and the Crozet Crooners. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Among her greatest pleasures were attending church, going out to eat, and visiting her many friends and family members.
A Celebration of life will be held at Crozet United Methodist Church at a Spring/Summer date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or to Crozet United Methodist Church.
Anderson Funeral Home of Crozet is in charge of arrangements.
