David "Dave" Leon Peterson, age 65, died of natural causes at the UVA Medical Center on Thursday, August 20, 2015.
Dave was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, to a military family, where he traveled extensively. Later he joined the Army and served during the Vietnam conflict. Helping others gave him purpose and led him to earn his degree as an RN from MTSU, but nothing mattered more than family. Dave was a loving husband, dedicated father, proud grandfather, awesome brother and son, as well as everybody's friend. A thirteen-year cancer survivor, he loved the Green Bay Packers, golf, telling tall tales, baseball, coaching, his job, but most of all, the time he spent with his family.
Dave is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Cindi; his son, David; his daughter, Danielle; grandson, RJ; his daughter-in-law, Alison, who all live locally; his father, Robert and mother Rosella, of Wisconsin; sister, Kathy; brothers, Mike of Minnesota, and Pat from Georgia, as well as numerous in-laws, cousins and other family members scattered across the states.
His remains will be laid to rest in Minnesota with his parents.
A memorial service was held Monday, August 24, 2015, at the McIntire ball park at lower field pavilion. There was one last softball game played in honor of Dave.
In lieu of flowers, make donations to the UVA Emily Couric Cancer Center.
