Edward "Eddie" Cecil Wood born August 17, 1951 in Charlottesville, VA left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 5, 2013. He was exactly where he wanted to be, surrounded by his family and friends at his home in Crozet, VA
He was preceded in death by his father, A. C. Wood and his mother, Joyce Melton Wood, Also his two sisters-in-law Karen P. Shifflett of Crozet and Dorothy Wood of Oklahoma.
He leaves his wife, Marilyn, behind to cherish 31 years of fond memories. He also left this life with two children to grieve. A daughter, Allison Wood of Crozet,VA and a son, Chad Wood of Crozet and his wife, Courtney whom he thought of as his daughter. He was the proudest Pop-Pop of three beautiful grandchildren, Chase,Cara, and Cole all of Crozet, VA. The unending smiles that they brought to him were unmentionable.
He believed that God came first and should be the center of all things especially family. He always put everyone before himself. His family was his life.
Eddie also leaves two brothers, Charles (Chuck) Wood of Oklahoma, and Robert (Bobby) Clore of Oregon, two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bryant of Crozet, VA and Gail Pritt of Ruckersville, VA, and three brothers-in-law, Charles (Tuna) Shifflett of Crozet, VA, Joseph Pritt of Ruckersville, VA, and Jerry Pritt of Maryland; two aunts, Margaret Melton of Ruckersville, VA and Phyllis Melton of Afton, VA; two of his greatest friends, Glace Deane, and Ann (Shorty) Shifflett both of Charlottesville, va. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends whom he prayed would meet him in heaven one day.
Eddie worked two jobs for 30+ years at University of Virginia Physical Plant and 20+ years at Western Albemarle High School until his illness forced him to retire. He cherished all the years he worked at both jobs and the memories made with his coworkers. He didn"t have a bad word to say about anyone. He was truly a friend to all he meet.
Eddie accepted God into his life at the age of 30 under the direction of Rev. Cecil Deal while attending Nortonsville Church of God. After marrying Marilyn he joined Commonwealth Christian Community (formerly known as Victory Hill Church of God and Crozet Church of God) where he served as a song leader, Sunday school teacher teacher, Sunday school superintendent, usher, trustee, and on the financial board.
The family thanks everyone for your visits, gifts, and prayers. We want to extend a special thank you to a special friend and amazing care giver, Tonya Hicks and her family. Eddie loved her so much. She was a blessing to us as she helped around the clock. We couldn't have gotten through this without her. We would also like to thank the UVA Cancer Center and Hospice of the Piedmont for their continued care and support.
Funeral services will be entrusted to Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, VA. Family night will be one Saturday, September 7, from 6-8 pm at Commonwealth Christian Community. The funeral will also be held at Commonwealth Christian Community Church on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2 o'clock.
Burial will follow at Rockgate Cemetery in Crozet, VA andersonfuneralservice@gmail.com
