Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Ethel McAllister Gibson, on December 22, 2024, at the age of 83. Known for her boundless love, wisdom, and kindness, Ethel was a pillar of strength to her family and a treasured member of the Crozet community.

Born on June 29, 1941, to the late Harry and Edith McAllister of Crozet. Ethel grew up surrounded by the love of her family and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. She was predeceased by her cherished husband, Fred Allen Gibson Sr., with whom she shared many beautiful years, her brothers, Ernest "Tubby" and Mervin McAllister of Crozet, brother-in-law, Hal Ferneyhough of Crozet, and Kirk Bailey of Sherando, VA.

Ethel's legacy lives on through her two devoted sons, Fred Allen Gibson Jr. and his wife Kim of Scottsville, VA, and Jeffrey Scott Gibson of Crozet, VA; her two granddaughters, Kristie Gibson of Raleigh, NC, and Jessie Walker (Patrick) of Cache, OK; and her five adored great-grandchildren, Madilynn, Peyton, Macey, Phoebe, and Jameson, all of Cache, OK. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Betty Ferneyhough and Lois Shifflett (James) of Crozet, and Madilynn Bailey of Sherando, VA, along with countless nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her generosity and warmth. A special place in her heart was reserved for Kevin and Netty Kelly, whose unwavering support made a profound difference in her final days.

Ethel worked at Acme Visible Records for many years before transitioning to a fulfilling role as a bus aide for Albemarle County Public Schools, where she later retired. She found joy in caring for the children she transported and treated each one as if they were her own.

Ethel cherished life's simple pleasures, from Saturday morning yard sales with her sisters to sitting on her porch watching and feeding the birds. Her love for gardening reflected her nurturing spirit, and she always found joy in giving to others.

Ethel's life was a testament to love, resilience, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her legacy of compassion and generosity will forever inspire those who carry her memory in their hearts.
