Gerald W. Decatur (Jerry) born 7-30-41 passed away after a brief illness on 1-20-22.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne James Decatur. His father and mother, Mason G. Decatur and Elsie Decatur. His brother, Kenneth G. Decatur and a nephew Robbie Decatur.

He is survived by his step children, Mike James, Melody J. Wright (Timothy). Also surviving are his sister Dale Decatur Hawley, brother Robert M. Decatur (Bonnie), and sister in laws Bessie Decatur and Sue Ryalls. Several nieces and nephews, daughter in law, Jill James.

His grandchildren: Autumn Temple (Mike) Heidi Layton (Matt), Shaun James, Raquel Williams(Brandon), Rosalinda James, Enrique Wright, Sergio Wright, Rekha Wright, Yue Yue Wright.

His Great Grandchildren: Jacob(Lauren), Joanna, James, Jadah and Jonathan Temple. Merri, Abigail, and Kara Layton. Darius James, Asher and Selah Williams.

Jerry was last employed and retired from Conagra, Crozet, Va. He was a proud Navy Veteran serving on the USS Shangri LA, CVA 38 from 1963-1967.

Jerry loved his Cockatiels (his boys). He loved to mow and he loved his community of friends in Crozet. He was proud of his family and a very upbeat person with a smile.  He also loved his Facebook family and sending his greetings each morning and night.

The family  (and Jerry) would like to thank his second family at MJH Cancer Center, and Dr. Pritchard. We also thank the nurses and doctors at UVA ICU for their dedicated care.

There will be a private family graveside service and in the spring we will do a friend/neighbor memorial get together.
