Obituary

Heaven was a winner on August 18, 2016, when God called our beloved Granny Jane Fisher to be a lead angel in Heaven. Anyone who met Granny Jane knew her as a warm, loving person whose heart was big enough to bring children and adults alike into her fold. She had no family tree—she had a family bush that grew every time she met another person she could love.

James A. Fisher, Jr. married the love of his life, Jane Chapman, and together they raised a family that includes sons Clifford Dale and wife Alice of Crozet, Michael Wayne and wife Jeannie Humburg of Rolesville, NC and daughter Becky and wife Paula White of Greenwood. Granny Jane, as so many people in the western part of Albemarle County knew her, is survived by one sister, Sue Lipscomb. She adored and completely doted on her granddaughter, Courtney Dey Fisher, and her grandsons Clifford Dale Fisher, Jr., Quinn Patrick Humburg-Fisher and Drew Barbour. There are many others who knew and loved her as their adoptive mother or grandmother.

She retired once from being a cafeteria manager in Albemarle County Schools, where she made sure all kids knew they were loved and all students and new teachers had plenty of food to eat. After retiring, she missed the kids so much, she returned as a teaching assistant and often bought school supplies for children and took in treats for parties and celebrations. She retired a second time when Jim, the husband she loved more than anything, asked her to please stay home with him so they could relish the life they had built together. They spent many years enjoying their time together, doing what they loved—tailgating at UVA athletic events and spoiling all of their friends, family, and special neighborhood children.

Jane C. Fisher, 76, passed away at the University of Virginia Medical Center after receiving excellent medical attention from the Emergency Department and Coronary Care Unit doctors and nurses. Her health had declined in the past year and a half, during which time she received wonderful care from all of her physicians and nurses at UVA Medical Center and her home health caretakers. She couldn't have fought such a hard fight to stay with us for the last year without the incredible love and dedication of her caring husband Jim, and support from family, amazing friends, and neighbors. Her faith in God sustained her always.

The family invites you to join in a celebration of her life at the Anderson Funeral Service in Crozet on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 6-8 pm. Come tell stories, recount your memories, remember her beautiful smile and share in the joy she brought to so many people in the 76 years God shared her here on earth.

A graveside service, officiated by Col. Roderick E. White, will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville at 2:00 pm. At Granny Jane's request, all services will be casual attire. Come as you are—she did not stand on ceremony and always loved gatherings where she could talk, listen and laugh with others.
