Obituary

Jean LaRue Thrasher Toms, 87 of Stuarts Draft, Va went to be with heavenly father on January 12, 2018 at her residence. She was born on March 20, 1930 in Norfolk, VA to the late Thomas Thrasher and Mary Ellen Thrasher. Also preceded in death by her husband, Emmett H. Wilson Toms, and one sister, Dora Yates.

She is survived by her three sons, Emmett Wilson Toms and wife Cookie of Waynesboro, VA, Donald Wayne Toms and wife Suzanne of Charlottesville, VA and Bruce Robin Toms and wife Marilee of Stuarts Draft, VA; two sisters, Mary Ellen Fitzmaurice of Maryland, and Joanne Stern of Florida; six grandchildren Kevin Wade Toms and wife Michelle of Nokesville, Kent Wilson Toms of Crozet, VA Jennifer Toms of Louisa, VA, Heather Toms of Gordonsville, VA, Justin Allen Toms and wife Temple o f Staunton, VA, Alisha Nichole Hevener and husband Marcus of Waynesboro, VA, and eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.


She graduated from Madison college (JMU), Summa Cum Laude, with a degree in Education, she started her teaching career in Albemarle County Schools. In addition to teaching she was a 4-H leader and home extension agent. Wilson was the love of her life and they were partners in the Toms Dairy farms for 38 years in Afton, VA.

She also attended seminary school and became an ordained minister serving and preaching at many local churches. Jean was an avid lover of the Lord and a great student of the Bible. She shared her faith in God and counciled with everyone she met, she never met a stranger. "Jesus loves you because the Bible tells you so"

Family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 6-8 pm at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday. January 16, 2018 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Crozet, VA with Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating.

Internment will follow at the Lebanon Presbyterian Cemetery in Geenwood, VA
