Obituary

John Carr Jones, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully March 20, 2016 on his beloved farm surrounded by all the people he loved the most. John was born January 22, 1923 in Crozet, VA. He was the son of Harry and Myrtle Jones. He graduated from Crozet High School. John grew up on a farm near White Hall in the shadow of Buck's Elbow working in apple and peach orchards with his Dad and his family. Later he and his two brothers, Winston and Bob started Jones Brother Dairy and worked on that for several years during which he met and married Ruth Florence of Charlottesville. After dairy farming he spent the rest of his life as a beef cattle farmer on his farm in White Hall. He also drove a school bus for Crozet Elementary School for 30 years and loved every minute of his time with the children. John loved to hunt in the mountains and ride horses. He competed in many local horse shows including the White Hall Hunt Club Horseshow and he was a farm member of Farmington Hunt. His daughters and granddaughters carry on his love for horses and riding. He was happiest riding his John Deer tractor or driving his grandkids around the farm in his old Bronco or pulling them on the hay wagon. John is survived by his three children, Cecilia (Ce) J. Kimata and her husband, Steve of White Hall, Mary J. Hall and her husband Paul of Norfolk, and John C. Jones, Jr (Jack) and his wife Rhonda of Crozet. John's pride and joy were his 6 grandchildren, Ila and Celine Kimata, John and Emily Hall and Ryan and Tyler Jones. He could be found just about every weekend at either his granddaughters' horseshows or his grandsons' baseball games. He is also survived by his two favorite caregivers, "his ladies", Renee Herring and Lisa Miller. John was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Florence Jones, his companion for many years, Mary Brown Martin, his eight (8) brothers and sisters: Llewellyn Jones, Harry Jones, Jr., Winston Jones, Bob Jones, Elizabeth Van Dorsen, Mavis Parker, Francis Moser, and many nieces and nephews. Many people were touched by John's smile, kindness, happiness, and love for children, animals, and being outdoors. His legacy is his family and his stories and sayings and he will live on through them.
