Our dear mother, Kay Lucille O'Connell left this world suddenly on August 2, 2022 at the
age of 85.
Kay was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on May 6, 1937 to her loving parents
Joseph and Frances Estrella.
After high school, Kay married Edward Thomas O'Connell on January 25, 1957. They
lived a full and happy life together for 65 years until Ed's passing on February 4, 2021.
After several work-related promotions, Kay and Ed settled in Charlottesville, Virginia
from 1974 to 1999. While taking a Sunday drive to the Shenandoah Valley, Kay found
her dream house in Bridgewater, Virginia and it was there that they made many friends
and enjoyed a quieter, slower paced lifestyle for 16 years.
In 2016 Kay and Ed moved back to Crozet, Virginia to be closer to their children and
grandchildren.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Thomas O'Connell and son
Edward Brian O'Connell. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Maureen Tilley
and husband Hilton Tilley; son Shawn O'Connell and wife Tina Tawney; granddaughter
Corinne Tilley and husband Dylan Finney; and grandsons Hilton Michael Tilley and Jack
Tilley. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Lenora King and Eileen
Herman and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kay was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved her family
and she loved God.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your
right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
Kay was a pragmatic woman and it served her well throughout her life. As Kay wished,
there will be a casual graveside service on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 10 am at
Lebanon Presbyterian Church 8312 Brooksville Road Greenwood VA. All are welcome.
