Lesley Minor Gibson died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was born May 3, 1932, in Albemarle County, the son of the late Douglas H. Gibson and Sarah Rea Gibson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Claytor.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Graves Gibson, a daughter, Patricia Diane Gaertner and her husband Paul, and a niece Bonnie Strickler and her son Kevin Ward.
Les was an avid photographer and was honored to have some of his work published in Secrets of the Blue Ridge by Phil James. Being a Crozetian all of his life, he enjoyed collecting memorabilia of Crozet's history. He attended Crozet High School and was employed by Acme Visible Records, Inc. in Crozet, VA and Wayside Press in Charlottesville, VA.
Les served in the US Navy Reserve for eight years, receiving his training at the U.S. Naval Training Station in Newport, Rhode Island. He was a member and served as President of the Crozet Fire Department. After retirement he enjoyed delivering flowers for Patterson's Flower Shop and driving the Shop's vintage cars for special occasions. He was a member of King Solomon's Masonic Lodge #194 and served as Worshipful Master in 1966.
The family wishes to thank the WARS volunteers for their many trips to UVA on his behalf and for the professional and expert care he received.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Crozet Baptist Church, with Rev. David Collyer officiating. You are invited to a reception in Gilliam Hall following the memorial service.
Private interment will be held at a later date.
