Malcolm Wood Sandridge Jr.,aged 92, passed peacefully on October 5th, 2024 He was preceded in death by his loving wife Effie Hege Montgomery.
Mac was born in Crozet, Virginia on July 25, 1932 to Malcolm Wood Sandridge Sr. and Davidson Hildebrand Sandridge. He is survived by his daughter Jeanette M. Buchner her husband Chris Buchner, granddaughter Jessica A. Buchner, his step son Riley B. Montgomery, step daughter Carolyn (decd.), nieces Kristin Rosser, Lisa Chaney and great nephew Brandon Beck. He is also survived by his loving sister Ella Sandridge Bailey, her daughter Donna Draper, her husband Dennis and their children Emily and Grace Draper.
Mac graduated from Crozet High School in 1949 and then served in the US Marine Corps from 1950-1953 and was stationed in the Mediterranean.
Mac then attended the Jefferson School of Commerce in 1949-1950 and 1954.
Mac was a commercial photographer from 1954 to 1957 with various companies. Mac loved documenting the history of Crozet through his photographs as a hobby and many of these pictures may be seen around town to this day.
Mac worked for the University of Virginia police department before joining the Albemarle County Sheriff's department as a deputy from 1957 to 1967. He then became Chief Investigator from 1967 to 1970 and was a homicide detective until he retired from the department.
He also worked for Burns Security in Richmond, Va representing 84 facilities.
Mac was selected as one of 2 candidates from the State of Virginia based on qualifications and potential to attend the FBI National Academy in Washington DC graduating in Nov 1969.
Mac was a life long member of Crozet Baptist Church and also attended the Mountain Plain Baptist Church.
His last years he enjoyed living at The Lodge at Old Trail in Crozet, Va. Thank you to the entire staff for providing excellent care over the recent years. Also thanks to Trinity Hospice for their loving care.
A viewing will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, Va followed by a grave side service at Mount Plain cemetery at 11am. A reception will follow at Crozet Baptist Church.
