Martha Alene Carter, 88, of Crozet died at her residence on June 6, 2014. She was born on July 1, 1925 in Amelia County, Virginia, the daughter of the late John R. Martin and Maggie T. Handy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester (Bud) Carter, and two sons, Steve Carter and Alan Carter, one brother, Clarence Martin and two sisters, Evelyn Tinsley, and Joyce L. Graves.

She is survived by a daugher, Wanda Horner and husband Jack and their children Ian and Megan Horner of Glengary, West Virginia, Daughter-in-law Hilda (Murt) Carter of Crozet, grandchildren, Kevin Carter and wife Michele of Palmyra, VA and Kimberly Carter of Crozet, VA, and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Zach, Cati, Drew, and Ryan, a special niece Darlene Maupin and husband David Maupin of Free Union, their children and grandchildren Trish Northington and husband Sam, Lee, Kahlan, and Lexi, Daniel Maupin and wife Leanne, Penelope and Gabe, and Nathan Maupin,

Nanny" will be remembered for her hard work, her depth and strength of character, and unconditional love she shared with all. She will be greatly missed by all members of her family and friends.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Mark Keeley, to Legacy Hospice Staff members, Diane Kudro, Nancy Anderson, and Murphy Terry, for their love and support.

Family will receive friends at Anderson Funeral Home from 6-8 on Monday, June 9, 2014.

Funeral service will be held at the Crozet Baptist Church at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, with Rev. David Collyer officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa, VA.
