Martha Elizabeth Fritz Coleman

Martha Elizabeth Fritz Coleman, 84, of Crozet, VA claimed the promise of eternal life on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Intensive Care Unit of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA, surrounded by her loving family.
Martha was born on January 8, 1932 in Scott County, VA. She was the daughter of the late David and Synthia Vaughn Fritz of Scott County.
Martha graduated salutatorian of her senior class at Rye Cove High School in Scott County. She attended nurses training at Blue Ridge Sanatorium in Charlottesville and graduated with her nursing diploma from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. She was a life-long learner and received her Associate Degree from Piedmont Virginia Community College in 1991.
Martha married Reverend Gerald Price Coleman on October 15, 1955 at Main Street Methodist Church in Bedford, VA. Together they served many churches in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Martha worked as a registered nurse and evening supervisor at Blue Ridge Sanatorium/Blue Ridge Hospital, University of Virginia until her retirement in 1994. She was an active and dedicated member of Crozet United Methodist Church where her husband was serving at the time of his death. She was the Worship Team leader for many years and volunteer organist/pianist for a time. She sang in the choir, was an active member of the United Methodist Women and participated in all aspects of church life. She was an active member and past president of her Nurses Alumni Association. Martha was also a member of the state and local Family Community Education (FCE) clubs.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Tom and Leonard Fritz; her sister, Maude Ethel Barnette; her husband, Gerald; her infant daughter Cynthia Elizabeth Coleman; and her son, Jonathan David Coleman.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Bray of Dungannon, VA three daughters: Karen Coleman Mimms Mills (Ritchie) of Crozet and Winchester, VA; Rev. Nancy Coleman Johnson (Rev. Bruce) of Amherst and New Market, VA; and Linda Coleman Thornton (Greg) of Palmyra, VA; four grandchildren: Michael Edward Mimms (Bree) of Ashville, NC; Lydia Elizabeth and Anna Ruth Johnson of Lynchburg, VA; and Nicholas Coleman Thornton of Palmyra; one newborn great-granddaughter, Emmalyn Paige Mimms; a beloved sister-in-law, Jeanette Coleman Jones of Gainesville, VA, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Arrangements are being coordinated by Anderson Funeral Service in Crozet. The family will receive friends at Anderson's (5888 St. George Ave., Crozet, VA 22932) on Friday, December 16 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A Service of Death and Resurrection celebrating Martha's life is scheduled for Saturday, December 17, 2:00 p.m. at Crozet United Methodist Church (1156 Crozet Ave., Crozet, VA). A family Service of Committal will be scheduled at a later date.
The family invites memorial gifts to be sent to Crozet United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 70, Crozet, VA 22932) designated for local missions that serve the needy in the community.
