Rodney Randolph
Hester
Sep 4, 1941 — Aug 17, 2022
Rodney Randolph Hester, 80 was born on September 4,1941 and was called home on
August 17, 2022. He was born in Marion, Virginia and lived his adult life in Crozet and
Free Union.
He retired from Albemarle County schools, loving the teachers and children at
Brownsville Elementary.
A very simple, hardworking family man and proud to have served in the Army. He loved
woodworking and was a master carpenter. What he lacked in height, he made up for in
his heart and sense of humor. Always finding a way to laugh and joke and making
others smile. He was called many things, Dad, Coach, Mr. Hester and Little Gnome
but, Paw-Paw was his favorite of all. He loved his family and was so proud of all,
especially his grandkids. He loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events and
was their biggest fan. Whenever you said I love you, he would always say I love you
most.
He leaves behind children Annette (Nettie) Conley Peterson, Steve Hester (Robin),
Angie Hester Richey (Ed); grandchildren Heather Conley, Tyler Hester (Allison), Travis
Hester, Michaela Richey, Dante Crawford (Mary), Tabitha Shifflett (Montie) and GW
Conley; great-grandchildren Levi Payne, Quinton Hester, Griffin Hester, Danielle
Shifflett and Kelsey Shifflett; great-great grandchildren Walker and Tinsleigh.; sister
Peggy Johnson Clayton; a brother, Ray Hester; brother-in-law Everett Brown along with
many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and others that he thought of as family,
including the Galvin family in Free Union and several Brownsville families. Lastly, we
cannot forget Saratoga (aka Nubby); his four-legged princess.
He was predeceased by his best friend and wife of 53 years, Margaret (Frankie) Hester;
great granddaughter Everly Margaret Rose and sons-in-law Gary Conley and Harold
Peterson and several brothers and sisters.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Crozet Baptist Church at
11:00AM. All are welcome to attend, please, come as you are.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad,
Crozet Fire Department, or the Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA. Also, the family would
like to thank the staff of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and the Laurel's of
Charlottesville for their love and compassion shown to our dad.
Paw-Paw, we know you are reunited with Nan-Nan again. This time, we love you most
and as he would say GO COWBOYS!
