Ruth Anderson Barrett, 83, of Crozet, Virginia, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, after a long illness. Born on her family's ancestral land in Nelson County, she graduated from Rockfish School and worked as an executive secretary at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia before her marriage.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Robert L. "Bob" Barrett; a son, Robert L. Barrett, III; her parents, Harry R. And Maggie Plunkett Anderson ; and all of her siblings; James David "J.D.", Harry Philmore "Phil", Willard O. "Billy", Samuel J. "Buster", Alma and Howard. While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice that these brothers and sisters have been reunited.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Barrett Kennedy of Crozet, her grandsons, Justin R. Kennedy of Murfreesboro, TN and Brandon S. Kennedy of Fort Collins, Colorado; her sister-in-law, Margaret Anderson of Charlotte, NC and a host of much-loved nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her deep and abiding love of family, for her feisty and strong-willed personality and for her amazing courage and strength as she neared the end of her earthly journey.
Family will receive friends from 6-7 on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, VA.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Hebron Baptist Church in Afton, VA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Michael Kerouac officiating.
