Samuel Baughman Craig, Jr. passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at mountainside Senior Living in Crozet,Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Hazel Thompson Craig and his brother William.
Dr. Craig received his BA in mathematics at the University of Virginia in 1961, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and served as the first counselor on The Lawn. In 1964 he received a Master of Divinity. from Pittsburgh theological seminary. He earned his M.ED from the University of Pittsburg in 1965 and his PhD there in 1967.
His career in Higher Education placed him on the faculties of the University of Pittsburgh , Lafayette College
and the University of Paris Vlll, where he prepared marketing students for internships in Pennsylvania for companies needing expertise and exporting their products into the European Community. In 1991, in partnership with his wife, he created Entree Resources through which he recruited outstanding European students, with a focus in marketing, engineering, culinary and hospitality fields, 412 month internships and American companies. It was an innovative approach to small businesses that need it expertise in these fields. His hard work flourished and provided unique opportunities for both the participating companies and students until his retirement in 2014.
Dr. CRAIG is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan Brown Craig, a son, Christopher Brown Craig (Elizabeth) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and a daughter, Hille Craig of Tampa, FL.
Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at Tabor Presbyterian church in Crozet on Wednesday, November 22 at 11:00 AM with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, consideration might be given to a donation to Tabor Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one's choice.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Mountainside Senior Living for the exceptional care and kindness shown to both Sam and Susan over the last six weeks, and to New Century Hospice for doing all possible to make Sam's last days comfortable.
