Shirley Christine Austin Kuiken, 80, of Charlottesville, Virginia and St James City, Florida departed this life in the early hours of May 11, 2019. Christine was born in Shawsville, Virginia to Mae Young Graham and Clarence Edward Graham. She was raised in Salem, Virginia and has resided Charlottesville, Virginia since 1967.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law Terry and Laurie Austin, her first husband and the father of her children Earl Austin, her grandson Michael Hall, her brothers Bobby and Ronnie Graham, and her second loving husband Henry Kuiken. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Austin Smith, grandchildren, Steven Hall, JR, Austin and Jason Stajduhar, Elaine Austin, and Stacey Hall, great grandchildren, Tristen Hall, Jamie Hall, Haydon Hall, Daniel Stajduhar, Lillian Stajduhar and Cali Grace Holt.
Christian retired as the Clinical Trials Coordinator at the University of Virginia Hospital after 24 years of service to UVA she became a snowbird. She built second loving home in St James City, Florida and was always surrounded by her dear friends, with whom she loved to travel. She was an independent spirit who knew what she wanted and never hesitated to make it so. She was an active member of her church both in Charlottesville and St. James city and always stayed busier in retirement than she did while working.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, VA.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. , Friday, May 17, 2019 at Mountain Plain Baptist Church with Dr. Sam Kellum officiating.
