Obituary

On Monday January 9th, 2017 just a month shy of his 96th birthday, Stuart W. Ferguson embarked peacefully on his last journey, this time to the eternal love of the Lord. Stu was born in Rochester, New York to immigrant parents Fred from Canada and Margaret from Scotland. After graduating from high school, he worked at Eastman Kodak until the US Navy recruited him to work in their photography labs in Washington, DC during WWII. He met Beatrice a young artist and WAVE there in the studio. After the war, they joined in holy matrimony and have been married for over seventy years.

He returned to Rochester with his bride and graduated from University of Rochester with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. A few years later - settled in Virginia Beach - Stu's career was mostly as a civil servant with the US Coast Guard, the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). While with NAVFAC Stu had projects all around Europe and the Middle East from Scotland to Bahrain with four enchanting years in Italy. His longest building project, started in 1963, is the light filled house he designed and built with family and friends on top of a wooded lot with 58 steps to the front door.

Stu is predeceased by his brother Glen. He is survived by his wife, Bea; their children Sandy, Alan (Daphne), and Bonnie (David); five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 2575 Garth Road Charlottesville, VA 22901 on his birthday Sunday February 5th at 2 pm.

In memory of Stu, once an Eagle Scout always an Eagle Scout, the family requests that in lieu of flowers any remembrances be made to Troop 111 BSA, 5146 Dickerson Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911 designated to the "scoutmaster's camping fund".
