Lucinda Susan Holstein Roe Copeland, 83, of Crozet, died at her residence surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren on June 6, 2013. She was born on October 14, 1929 in Camp Creek, West Virginia to the late Omer and Stella Holstein. In 1944, Sue was welcomed to the home of Thomas and Margretta Roe in Chester, NY as an adopted daughter. She is survived by her sister, Peg Panz and her brother Omer Clayton Holstein and adoptive brothers Nat and Bud Roe. Eight brothers and sisters are deceased: Wesley Holstein, Dennis Holstein, Myrtle Turner, Mary Hankins, Oma Brown, Nancy Holstein, Viniacy Holstein, Frances Ann Wilson and one adoptive sister, Kate Williamson.
She is survived by her husband, James Rogers Copeland, six children: Ruth Ann (Stewart) Irwin of Reston, VA, James (Susie) Copeland of Meridan, MS, John (Lucy) Copeland of Christiansburg, VA, David (Maria) Copeland of Fredericksburg, VA, Timothy (Renee) Copeland of Stuarts Draft, VA., Rebecca (Dale) Hess of Harrisonburg, VA and 16 grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 6-8 pm. Buriel will be held at 10 am at the Culpeper (VA) National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, and a memorial service will follow at 3 PM at Crozet Baptist Church with Dr. Sam Kellum officiating.
