William Bryon Smith, Sr. 72, of Batesville, VA died at his residence on December 22, 2012. He was born on February 7, 1940, the only son of the late William Emmanuel Smith and Phyllis Graves. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, R. Gayle Miller and two sister-in-laws, Madeline Alexander, and Ann Miller.

He is survived by his wife, of 53 Years, Judy Miller Smith of Batesville, and one daughter, Sandra Carol Smith of Batesville, VA, one son, William Byron Smith, Jr. and wife Alice of Indianapolis, IN, two grandsons, Benjamin Wade Smith of Indianapolis, IN and Jacob Gabriel Smith of Batesville, VA and in-laws, Adeline and Conrade Guthrie of Waynesboro, VA;, three nieces and two nephews, and many friends.

He was a lifelong resident of Batesville, and an active member and deacon of the Mount Ed Baptist Church in Batesville, VA. He was a great worker in the church and community, handyman and lover of old cars. He owned his own company of installation of drapes and blinds.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Mount Ed Baptist Church in Batesville with Dr. Ronald Nickell, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

The family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Mount Ed Baptist Church building fund.
